Artist's Biography

Born 1968, in the city of Chisinau, Moldova. Victor Colesnicenco A.K.A. Nemo spent his youth in a small village just outside the city limits of Chisinau with his Grandfather who was working as a Barrel Maker.

Growing up Nemo was exposed to a rich artistic world filled with religious carvings from the nearby Churches and Art Museums housing paintings from the likes of Ivan Shishkin, Ivan Aivazovsky, Pierre-August Renoir, Claude Monet, Salvador Dali to name a few, not to mention the Stalinist Architecture that permeated the general landscape.

During his teens while working in a refrigerator factory, Nemo enrolled in the “Moscow Peoples University of Art”, presently known as The Academy of Music, Theater and Fine Arts. At the end of his 3rd year of studies, Nemo began to feel that his work was becoming stale due to the structured environment of the University lifestyle. So, Nemo decided to withdraw from his pursuits for an fine arts degree. With this new found time, Nemo spent it travelling the countryside of Moldova, and expanding his abilities in painting.

In 1987 Nemo had his first exhibition where he received glowing reviews, which led to his participation at The Moscow International Exhibition where he was awarded Best in Show.

The following year, as is Mandatory in Moldova, Nemo was enlisted with the Soviet Army for the following two years. Once his service was completed, Nemo moved to the city and began working in the restoration field, specializing in icons for numerous churches throughout Chisinau.

During this time, Nemo Founded a regular art display in the Stephen the Great Central Park for local artists.

Years Later, in 1999, Nemo with his wife and son emigrated to Canada, settling in the Niagara region.

Viewing his new home as a gateway to more opportunity, Nemo spent the following years travelling throughout North America and the United Kingdom, participating in numerous Exhibitions throughout.

Nemo employs a variety of mediums when he produces a work of art, which is given the underwhelming label of “Mixed Media” while in actuality he makes use of photographs, drawings, acrylic, fabric, paper, acrylic gel, liquid gel, and in some cases epoxy.

The origins for his technique was made manifest from the inner recesses of a dream, creating a setting similar to that of a movie, with characters, props, lighting, often juxtaposing past, present and future to create the perfect mood for a dreamlike memory somewhere in time and space.
