Diana Rosa
Artist's Biography
Born in Holguin, Cuba, 1971. Surrounded by sugar cane fields, Diana Rosa Latourt grew up within a family of musicians, she began her studies in art with after school programs. In 1989 she attended The University of Oriente in the city of Santiago De Cuba. After graduating in 1994, she returned home and began work as a curator at The Contemporary Art Centre of Holguin. In 2001 Diana made the brave move to relocate to Canada where she took up a position at The Royal Ontario Museum - in The Department of Western Culture. After one year Diana decided to rededicate herself to her artwork, creating works deeply influenced by her origins and memories of her small village by the ocean where she spent her youth. The backgrounds of her works emulate the vegetation of her homeland, while juxtaposing whimsical foregrounds. Lover trysts, to friendly outings adorn her works, a suave abstract composition with a medley of surrealism and cubism, with a dash of Henry Rousseau. Diana currently resides in Brampton, Ontario.
