Douglas Edwards

Artist's Biography

Born in Toronto in 1954, Douglas Edwards has left his mark on the world in the most beautiful way possible by creating wondrous paintings showing Canada in her proper attire with quaint yet luminous nature scenes to make most peoples’ hearts throb for the outdoors. During his final year of enrollment at the Ontario College of Art and Design where he was studying portraiture, he left Canada to continue his studies in Florence, Italy where he discovered the liberation of landscape painting. Having found a genre that would satisfy his want for unstructured fluidity Edwards painted his first sky, after it was completed, something happened, it changed him, working with light in its purest form was a revelation in itself. After returning to Canada to his Toronto studio, Edwards decided to take a reprieve to Creemore, Ontario to do some much needed artistic brainstorming before jumping in line with the work force. But while in Creemore he started to see that his home was overly abundant with beauty that he felt he must share with the whole world, and to show other Canadians that there is so much beauty that lies undetected around them.
